Former cricketer Javagal Srinath had spoken about Zaheer’s interest in adopting a tiger during his recent visit to the zoo.

Zaheer, also known as Zak, has adopted the tiger for one year from February 21, 2011 to February 20, 2012.

K B Markandaiah, executive director of Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, said the zoo is expecting other leading Indian cricketers to follow suit and adopt various animals during their stay in Bangalore for the World Cup-2011.

Srinath has been instrumental in inspiring Indian cricketers to become proud ambassadors of the Mysore Zoo by involving them in this novel conservation scheme.

During the current financial year the total number of animals adopted till date is 374 and the amount realised is Rs 28.78 lakh.
