Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil said that a survey on the traffic was being carried out to identify the bottlenecks that cause traffic congestion in the city.

Speaking at road safety meeting, organised as a part of RTA meeting here, recently, the DC said that 60% to 70% of the survey had been completed.

The survey is looking into the movement of vehicles on feeder and interior roads that connect the main roads in the city. “Smart City road is not aimed at infrastructure alone. It also includes easy flow of traffic as well. The experts from IIT, Kanpur are also studying the traffic issues in the city," said Senthil.

Stating that the number of vehicles have increased in the city, he said there was a need to improve infrastructure as well as bring in policies to check traffic congestion.

Senthil said that the work on flyovers at Thokkottu and Pumpwell will be completed by March and May respectively.

“The work on the flyovers on National Highway 66 as a part of the four-laning of the national highway from Talapady to Nanthoor have commenced and the the district administration is monitoring the work,” he added.
