In yet another powerful show of solidarity, thousands of citizens gathered on Friday evening for a massive 42-km torch rally demanding justice for the murdered young medic, coinciding with junior doctors' withdrawal of 'cease work'. Kolkata Rape-Murder Case Highlights: Junior doctors' meet with Bengal govt officials ends after two-and-a-half hours
The West Bengal government on Wednesday invited the junior doctors agitating over the RG Kar incident for a meeting at the state secretariat at 6.30 pm, responding to their request for a fresh round of talks. Junior doctors had requested to meet the Chief Secretary as according to them, some of their demands remained unresolved. The junior medics reached Nabanna, a little later than than the mentioned time, to hold talks with the govt and end the impasse. The second round of talks was held on Wednesday for two-and-a-half hours. The details of the meeting were not immediately known. Meanwhile, The Bengal chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Tuesday wrote to the West Bengal Medical Council urging it to cancel the registration of the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Sandip Ghosh. The agitating doctors have written back to the Bengal government, demanding that a 30-member delegation be allowed to meet the state administration in the presence of CM Mamata Banerjee to discuss the ongoing impasse arising out of the alleged rape and murder of doctor at the R G Kar hospital in Kolkata. The state has so far not replied to the doctors' fresh demands. The protestors also asked for the interaction to be live telecasted.
