Teacher beats kid for refusing midday meal

A school headteacher allegedly beat a student in Karkala taluk on Saturday, for not having the mid-day meal.

The student is Aneesh, son of Krishna Kotian and Renuka, residents of Padambodi, Beladi in Kanthavara village of Karkala Taluk.

Aneesh is a student of class one at the Government Aided Higher Primary School, Beladi. As he was ill, his parents packed him lunch from home. They also requested his teacher to allow their son to have lunch brought from home.

Headteacher Suresh forced the boy to have the meal served at the school. When the boy refused, he was summoned to a room where the head teacher allegedly beat him with a stick.

The boy sustained bruises on his back. Renuka, Aneesh’s mother, lodged a complaint at Karkala rural police station.
