Google announces new AI mode experimental search feature

After bringing the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Overview, Google has announced new AI Mode search feature.

The new AI Mode is powered by Google's custom version of Gemini 2.0. It will be able to understand more complex queries than ever before.

Users will be able to converse with the search app in a natural conversation, like between two people. They can ask follow-up questions and add more context to the query. According to the request, the AI Mode will be able to deliver correct information.

The search results will include links to the sources and images interspersed between paragraphs.

It will also offer Knowledge Graph, information about the real world, and shopping data for billions of products.

Google's advanced quality and ranking systems determine information from a genuine source. Gemini 2.0 will deliver the answer in the simplest form for everybody of all age groups to understand.

"It uses a “query fan-out” technique, issuing multiple related searches concurrently across subtopics and multiple data sources and then brings those results together to provide an easy-to-understand response. This approach helps you access more breadth and depth of information than a traditional search on Google," said Robby Stein, VP of Product, Google Search.

However, when the Google Search app has difficulty in determining the genuineness of a source link and has less confidence in helpfulness and quality, the response will be a set of generic web search results, like it offers currently to all users.

The experimental AI Mode search feature is available in the US. Later this week, only those with a Google One AI Premium subscription will be able to access AI mode via Search Labs.

For the uninitiated, Google Search Labs is a programme that lets people test new Google Search features and provide feedback.

Like the AI Overview testing, the company is seeking feedback from the public testers. If they find any issues, it will weed out the bugs and expand the AI Mode to more users worldwide later this year.
