Google to offer full suite of Gemini gen AI features with Workspace plans

Google Workspace clients will now get access to gen AI-powered features in Gmail, Docs, Spreadsheets and other productivity tools.

We are just two weeks into 2025 and already, competition to lead the generative Artificial Intelligence (gen AI) race is heating up among top technology giants.

Just a day ago, Microsoft announced a new Microsoft 365 Copilot chat service. It is an advanced gen AI agent capable of functioning independently. This can help clients to automate their repetitive operations and streamline the work in segments like software coding. This pay-as-you-use model is very beneficial for startups to save money.

Now, Google has introduced similar measures for companies. The latter don't have to subscribe to any separate top-up plans to access gen AI-powered features in Gmail, Docs, Spreadsheets and other productivity tools.

Previously, clients had to subscribe to add-on plans such as Gemini Business, Gemini Enterprise, AI Meetings & Messaging, and AI Security. Going forward, all the above have been discontinued.

Now, on Gmail and Docs, Workspace clients will be able to access Gemini AI features such as Help me write (to draft emails), summarise emails, Gemini in the Gmail side panel, Gemini in the Doc side panel, Cover images (exclusive to Docs, to generate photos).

On the Meet application, users get to access features including- 'Take notes for me in Meet', adaptive Audio, Additional languages for translated captions in Meet, and Additional languages for translated captions in Meet.

Similar Gemini AI features will be available on Google Drive, Google Sheets, Slides, Chat and additionally, users will get access to Gemini Advanced and NotebookLM Plus. The latter two will be beneficial for heavy-duty tasks.

Google Gemini Advanced come in handy in complex projects including coding, research, and data analysis. And, with NotebookLM Plus, users can get instant insights into documents or videos. It can offer podcast-like Audio Overviews, which can shared with the team to accelerate their learning and complete the project.

In India, Google Workspace starts with a basic plan Business Starter worth Rs 165.65 per month/user. There are also Business Standard (Rs 864 per month/user), Business Plus (Rs 1,700 per month/user) and Enterprise (as per requirement).
