Town Hall to be named after Kudmul Ranga Rao

Mayor K Bhaskar Moily said development works worth Rs 462.45 crore under Smart City project, AMRUT scheme and ADB-funded projects will be launched on Tuesday.

The Town Hall will be renamed after social reformer Kudmul Ranga Rao on the occasion.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, he said that a total of 40 works will be taken up. About 13 works worth Rs 11.55 crore will be inaugurated while foundation stone will be laid for 27 works, he added.

He said that the development works under Smart City project, AMRUT Scheme, ADB-funded project, Chief Minister’s Nagarothana Second and Third Phase grant, development Junction under Premium FAR will be taken up.

The works to be inaugurated are a park under AMRUT scheme at a cost of Rs 59 lakh at Katipalla 7th Block, Kankanady Fr Muller Junction to Pumpweel Junction (Old post office) road (Rs 270 lakh), road from Faisal Nagara to Bajal Padavu (Rs 100 lakh), road from Highland to Attavar (Rs 180 lakh), toilets inside Kadri Park (Rs 12 lakh), two e-toilets at KHB Colony at Pakkaladka (Rs 14 lakh), Kunjathabail land field site (Rs 100 lakh), toilets at swimming pool (Rs 20 lakh), concreted road to Pacchanady dumping yard (Rs 150 lakh),development of main road leading to Pacchanady dumping yard (Rs 70 lakh) and road near Mangala Jyothi School at Vamanjoor (Rs 45 lakh) and Surathkal MRPL Main Road (Rs 135 lakh).

The mayor said that foundation stone will be laid for nine works under Smart City project at a cost of Rs 174.32 crore.

The works are Smart Road from Clock Tower Circle to A B Shetty Circle (7.56 crore), laying of UGD in Area-Based Development in (Rs 17.49 cr), smart bus shelters in Pan City areas (Rs 9.40 crore), solar units in government buildings coming under area-based development of MCC (Rs 7.08 crore), multilevel car parking in old bus stand, Hampankatta (Rs 94 crore), and construction of command control centre (Rs 38.79 crore).

Under AMRUT scheme, the work on UGD development from Idya East-Chokkabettu (Rs 4 crore), rejuvenation and rebuilding of UGD system in different parts of Mangaluru (Rs 146.83 crore) will be taken up, he said.

An old underground sewage pumping the main line to a length of 11 km in the South-West in Mangaluru will be replaced under the second phase of the ADB-funded project at a cost of Rs 93.55 crore, MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer said.

As the old pipeline cannot carry the present sewage load and it was decided to replace it with a new one.

The old pipeline from Pandeshwar-Kandatpalli-Kudroli- Mullakadu will be replaced, he added.

The mayor announced that the MCC will donate Rs 10 lakh to the rain-affected victims in Kodagu.

The MCC officials will contribute one day’s salary which will come around Rs 5.14 lakh. All the corporators will contribute a month’s honorarium towards the cause, he said.
