The turf wicket of Karavali Cricket Academy will be inaugurated at the University College grounds on November 25.

Santhosh Misquith, Director and Coach of the Academy told reporters that the Dakshina Kannada district has a lot of talented players in cricket and their potential is yet to be tapped.

“We can get many good players from here. The turf wicket will help the players to excel. Earlier, the talents from coastal belt had to take part in state-level tournament in order to get an exposure to the turf wicket.” he said.

In addition to the inauguration of turf wicket, bowling machine installed by the Academy will also be inaugurated. The bowling machine installed can be set to bowl at speeds ranging from 100 kmph to 150 kmph, with the swing, length and bounce pre-set on the device.

The machine has different settings to bowl outswinger, inswinger, leg and off-break, yorker, googly and so on.

Besides, it can also vary the pace and length of the ball to surprise the cricketer.

The machine is two-tier Master Digi, whereas Indian cricket players use a
higher version of the same machine.

With the machine and turf wicket, the talented boys can prepare themselves and get to a higher level in cricket.

Further, he said that the Academy has initiated a programme called ‘Talent Hunt’ to bring out the hidden talent in children at the government schools in the interior parts of the district.

“The Academy will provide free cricket kits to selected students, along with offering a free training and scholarship for the entire year. Already, a few talented students have been selected. Few more students will be selected by the academy,” he said.

“Several young students have talent, but do not have resources to purchase cricket kit and to get trained. The Academy will help such students by selecting them,” he added.
