JOIN USUnauthorised business establishments in residential areas in the city are becoming a bane for residents.
Residents of Sri Mahadeshwara Housing Cooperative Society Layout in Vijayanagar Second Stage said they are the worst affected as there are several unauthorised hotels, petty shops and tea stalls in the area. Customers to these business establishments park their vehicles haphazardly creating a nuisance for residents.
KK Krishnappa, a resident said when residents complain about the inconvenience, the shopkeepers threaten them with dire consequences.
“Youth gather near the shops every evening. It is difficult for girls and women to walk on the street. Even footpaths are encroached upon,” he said.
Krishnappa said the residents have urged Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) commissioner and the city police commissioner to take legal action against illegal shopkeepers. But, the officials have failed to act against them, he pointed out.
Another resident said the City Traffic Police are not bothered about illegal parking. “Though several vehicles are parked at non-designated areas, no legal action is taken. Police are seen monitoring traffic at major streets in the city. But, they are not bothered about residential areas. There is a need to strengthen the laws. The heavy penalty must be imposed on the violators,” he opined.
MCC officials claim that no illegal shop is allowed in any area of the city. MCC personnel remove unauthorised shops. ‘Abhaya’, a team, is meant to check illegal shops.
The team members patrol the city every day. The officer claimed that the team has evicted unauthorised petty shops a few days ago. “We will remove the shops and will also 0take action against the illegal business establishments if they are located in the area,” said an official.
