VHP to constitute 'Gau Raksha Dal'

Alleging that the police have failed to check the increase in cattle theft cases, the district unit of Vishva Hindu Parishad has decided to constitute “Gau Raksha Dal” in all villages of Dakshina Kannada district, to check the theft and illegal transportation of cattle.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, VHP Mangaluru Division President Jagadish Shenava said that the VHP will constitute “Gau Raksha Dal” in every village, comprising 10 people. The members will be vigilant and keep an eye on illegal transportation of cattle. They will work in shifts.

“We will waylay the vehicles suspected of transporting cattle and hand it over to the police. As the police failed, it was inevitable for the VHP to come to the field to protect cattle,” he said.

He alleged that cattle thieves are engaged in stealing cattle from cowsheds by threatening and wielding swords at the house owners. In fact, 21 cows were stolen in Moodushedde village alone in the last one month. No efforts were made to trace the stolen cattle.

The cattle thieves fed poison to the dog in the house of Purushotham while stealing the cattle at Moodushedde. Two cows were stolen from the house of a woman, Lakshmi, at Ullal recently. In fact, 15 cows were stolen from her house eight years ago, he added.

He urged the police to invoke the Goonda Act against cattle thieves.

The VHP and Bajrang Dal have planned to organise a massive protest rally against the increase in cattle theft from Vamanjoor to Moodushedde on July 26 at 4 pm.
