Water enters houses, in absence of stormwater drains

Last Updated 12 October 2018, 13:52 IST

Rainwater flows on the road due to the lack of stormwater drains in Madikeri town.

The rain has created havoc in the last one week for the residents of Kaveri, Prakrithi, Abdul Kalam and Karnangeri Layouts.

Instead of rainwater flowing in the drains, the water had entered the houses in these layouts.

As the rain poured, residents in these layouts were woken up by water gushing into their homes. Many spent their hours flushing water out of their homes.

The road leading to St Joseph School turns into a mini pool when it rains for just an hour.

Heavy rain for a couple of hours results in water flowing on College Road, Gowli Beedi, milk dairy and other areas.

There are no stormwater drains on the stretch near the district stadium. The incomplete UGD works have also added to the woes of residents.

Residents have urged the local body to rectify the stormwater drains to ensure that rainwater flows in it.

Deekshith from Kaveri Layout said, “Rainfall brings in the entire water from the drains to our houses. In spite of complaining to the authorities, no measures have been taken to reduce our woes.”

Indira Nagar resident Sonia said, “Water from the stormwater drains flows into our house. The authorities should set right the drains.”

Meanwhile, the houses of Sakamma, Acchutha, Raghu were damaged following a landslide, at Chamundeshwari Nagar.

More than 10 houses have been damaged in Mangaladevi Nagar, Indira Nagar and Chamundeshwari Nagar following landslides, over the last few days.
