<p>An Indian-origin man was brutally attacked by a group of teenagers with a machete in Australia's Melbourne on July 19.</p><p>Saurabh Anand (33) was left seriously injured with an almost severed hand, <a href="https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/all-i-remember-is-the-pain-man-who-almost-lost-hand-in-machete-slashing-recounts-brutal-attack-20250726-p5mhz2.html">according</a> to The Age.</p><p>He was ambushed by five teenagers while he was returning from a pharmacy at Central Square Shopping Centre in Altona Meadows.</p><p>Saurabh told the publication that he was on a phone call with a friend when he saw a flicker of movement around him.</p><p>He said, "I didn't hear a sound." He said that the boys surrounded him, rummaging through his pockets in search of any valuables and another punched him repeatedly in the head until he fell to the ground. </p><p>A third teenager pulled a machete near his throat. </p><p>"My instinctive reaction was to bring my arm up to protect my face and wrist. While I was trying to protect myself, the machete just went through my wrist. The second attack went through my hand. He suffered a fractured spine, broken bones in his arm and head injuries.</p><p>From his hospital bed he said, "I was just trying to survive. All I remember is the pain and my hand was…hanging by a thread."</p><p>Seriously injured and covered in blood, Saurabh begged for help from passersby.</p><p>"I saw someone and I just yelled out, ‘I’ve been attacked. Please help me'," Saurabh told the publication.</p><p>People came to his help and he was rushed to the Royal Melbourne Hospital where doctors initially thought that amputating his left arm is the only option.</p><p>However, by inserting screws in his wrist and hand, the surgeons were able to reattach his hand after a long emergency surgery.</p><p>"The doctors say my injuries are so severe that they’re unsure how this is going to go. I cannot move my hand…All I feel in it is pain," Saurabh told the publication.</p><p>The police arrested four teenage boys in connection with the brutal attack and a search for the fifth suspect was on. </p>
