Married professor in China gets fired after having homosexual affair with a student

A student of one of China’s premier engineering institutes revealed that one of his male teachers had an extramarital affair with him, the South China Morning Post reported. 

The student also claimed that the professor leaked him interview questions, and smothered him with expressions of love that left him depressed.

Within a short period, the Beijing Institute of Technology announced on April 20 that the student’s accusations were true. This revelation caused the professor to be dismissed by the university and he was also expelled by the Chinese Communist Party.

The teacher, Gong Lin, was a prominent individual at the university, being the vice president of the University’s school of mechanical engineering and also being a general manager of the university-affiliated Assets Management company..

His actions were revealed by his student, Chang Xuqiang, through a 104-page slide show filled with screenshots of their online chats, nude photos of Gong, and expensive gifts the academic had bought him.

According to Chang, the two met in 2021 while Chang was an undergraduate student and Gong showed immediate interest in him. He later added Chang on a chat app, showed great interest in his personal life, took him to dinners, invited him to join his research projects, and even added Chang’s name to a conference paper his team produced.

Gong also allegedly leaked postgraduate recommendation interview questions to him in order to maintain close ties with Chang.

Chang stated that in 2022, Gong came out to him despite having two children and asked if he was also homosexual. Shortly after this, he confessed his love to Chang. This was followed by Gong creating a secret chat app account to contact Chang. He stated that the relationship turned sexual in 2023 when he and Gong started having intimate encounters in the conferences they attended.

The chats revealed by Chang show that he began ignoring Gong in 2024 due to the depression and anxiety caused by Gong’s relentless push towards their relationship. Despite this, a heartbroken Gong sent a long letter professing his love, and even chased him all the way from Beijing to Chang’s hometown in northeastern China’s Jilin province.

Chang has not revealed his intent behind revealing the affair. After the university published its severe punishment on Gong, calls for Chang to be punished intensified as it was deemed that his status as a postgraduate was achieved through unfair means through Gong. Despite this, the university has not made any comments regarding the aforementioned requests.
