September 11 attacks (2001)

The September 11 attacks, also known as the 9/11 attacks, was a series of four terrorist suicide attacks carried out by the terrorist organisation Al-Qaeda in the United States.

Tenerife airport disaster (1977)

The incident took place on March 27, 1977, when two Boeing 747 aircrafts collided on a runway at the Los Rodeos Airport, resulting in the death of 583 (234 and 335 people in both aircraft besides 14 crew members) people, making it the deadliest accident in aviation history. The Boeing pilot mistook that he was cleared for take-off, which was the main reason of the collision. The accident led to a change in air traffic communication and crew training for flights.

Japan Airlines Flight 123 (1985)

A Boeing 747 domestic passenger flight bound to fly from Tokyo to Osaka on August 12, 1985, suffered an explosive decompression mid-flight, which made the aircraft uncontrollable. The aircraft crashed into a mountain after the pilots managed to keep it flying for 32 minutes, killing 520 people and leaving only four survivors.

Charkhi Dadri mid-air collision (1996)

A Boeing 747 en route from Delhi to Dhahran in Saudi Arabia collided with another aircraft over the city of Charkhi Dadri in India on November 12, 1996. The collision resulted in the death of 349 people on board both aircraft. The accident occurred as the Kazakh pilot flew lower than the assigned altitude.

Turkish Airlines Flight 981 (1974)

On March 3, 1974, a Turkish airlines flight crashed in a forest near Paris, France. The accident occurred due to a technical fault when a cargo door of the aircraft dislodged, causing excessive decompression and loss of cables, which made it difficult to control the plane. All the 346 people on board lost their lives in the accident.
