Infosys has hired a record number of technology professionals during the first half of fiscal 2018-19.

The company has witnessed a gross addition of 29,595 employees in its workforce in the six- month period ended September 30, 2018. Out of this, 17,709 were hired in the first quarter, while 11,887 were hired in the second quarter of the current financial year. The gross addition includes both lateral hires as well as the freshers.

The company is hopeful of continuing on this momentum. “This shows the momentum we have. We don’t usually declare the number of new hires we are going to take in, but all I can say is that we are hopeful of continuing on the current momentum,” company’s COO UB Pravin Rao told DH.

The company has also managed to bring down its attrition level marginally to 19.9% from an all-time high of 20.6% in the first quarter. As a result of it, the company saw its net addition in the headcount increase by 7,834 people to 2,17,739 employees.

The company's employee benefit costs have also increased by 16.2% on a year-on-year basis to Rs 9,976 crore during the quarter.

According to the company officials, a major jump in the employee benefits comes from the measures taken to control the attrition rates within the company.

Recently, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) said it is giving offers to 28,000 campus recruits this year, the highest in the past three years. In the previous two years, the company had been making offers to about 20,000 freshers.
