Finally, civic works begin on Panathur-Belagere Road

The promises that Varthur corporator made to residents to install street lights, ban water tankers on the Panathur-Belagere road among others are yet to be accomplished.

Corporator Pushpa Manjunath visited the apartment complexes on the Panathur-Belagere road 20 days ago and assured the residents a quick fix of a number of issues in the area.

She had promised to install street lights on the entire stretch of Panathur-Belagere road, ban water tankers during peak hours that were causing traffic snarls, fill the potholes and asphalt the road in 15 days from the day of the meet.

The residents are happy that the work has started, however, are saddened to see the work going on at a snail’s pace.

“The street lights are not yet installed in the area close to the railway under bridge (RUB) which sees heavy-traffic density. They are filling the potholes on the roads, but are yet to asphalt it. The water tankers are freely moving during peak hours adding on to the traffic problem,” said one of the residents.

The residents along with the corporator had met the HAL traffic police 15 days ago and requested them to deploy two policemen near the RUB to manage traffic.

“However, only one traffic policeman has been assigned as they are short of staff,” said the corporator.

The residents are happy to see their area recovering slowly.

“The roads look better after filling the potholes and installing street lights at least in a few places. If the entire work is completed soon, it will be of great help to us,” added another resident.

The corporator added: “It is due to rain that we are delaying the asphalting work. Currently, we are installing street lights and will compete it on the entire stretch soon.”
