Intense lobbying among the JD(S) corporators has begun for the deputy mayor's post in Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) even as the polling date is yet to be decided.

According to Netra Narayan, party leader and corporator of Kaval Bairasandra, apart from herself, Bhadre Gowda B, a corporator from Nagapura ward and Rajashekara N from Vishwanath Nagenahalli ward are aspiring for the post.

It is close to a year since Netra has taken up the party leader's post and is now aspiring for the deputy mayor's post.

Netra also said that BBMP officials were waiting for regional commissioner Shivayogi Kalasad to finalise the polling dates.

She said there was a slight delay regarding voter’s list as there was some confusion over Congress leader V S Ugrappa's name. Ugrappa recently won the Ballari by-polls against BJP’s J Shanta. His name may be deleted from the voter’s list, she said.

The polls for the post is being held following the death of Ramila Umashankar while she was incumbent in the office. Ramila, a corporator from Kaveripura ward was elected as the deputy Mayor on September 28. She passed away on October 5 following cardiac arrest.

The deputy mayor's post is reserved for women and will be given to JD(S) leaders.
