Five Rohingiyas, who had illegally entered Assam in 2014 were taken to India-Myanmar border in Manipur for their deportation on Thursday.

Official sources here said the five Myanmar nationals including two women were lodged in a foreigner detention centre inside Tezpur jail in North Assam's Sonitpur district, after they were found guilty of illegally entering Assam.

"We got in touch with Myanmar officials seeking details of their addresses for the deportation. Myanmar government verified the address details provided by the illegal migrants and they also desired to go back to their homes. Accordingly, they were taken to Moreh border in Manipur today and are likely to be handed over to Myanmar officials and security guards on Thursday," said a source.

The five have been identified as Mohammad Ayas, Mohammad Riyas, Ahmed Hussain, Toyaba Khatun and Azida Begum. They are residents of Buthitang area in Myanmar and Rohingiyas, the official confirmed.

Seven Rohingiyas were similarly deported from Assam in October last year after Supreme Court refused to interfere into a petition to stop their deportation. They were lodged in Silchar jail in South Assam.

Sources said another Myanmarese national, who was caught in Haryana for illegally entering India was also brought to Assam a few days ago and was repatriated to Myanmar through Manipur border on Wednesday.

There are 15 other Rohingiyas from Myanmar still lodged in different jails in Assam and official process was underway for their deportation, said the source. According to a union home ministry report, an estimated 40,000 Rohingiyas are now living in India and most of them are in Jammu, Hyderabad, Kanpur and outskirts of Delhi.
