Steel factory in Uttar Pradesh town attracts Rs 65 lakh fine for causing pollution

A team of Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board has recommended fining three industrial firms with more than Rs 66,00,000 here after finding them violating the pollution norms.

During its checking of several entities, the team found Trimurti Engineering Works, a steel factory, of causing pollution and recommended to the board that it be fined with Rs 65,75,000.

The team led by the board’s Regional Officer Ankit Singh, also proposed fines of Rs 50,000 each against two building material trading firms for creating air pollution. (PTI)

The BJP and Congress slammed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday over his six-point action plan to clean the Yamuna, saying the river was heavily polluted despite his repeated promises.

Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta said it was being promised since 2013 that the stretch of the Yamuna river in the national capital would be made suitable for bathing and look like the Thames in London.

IAF chopper force-lands in Arunachal, crew safe

An Mi-17 chopper of the Indian Air Force (IAF), with two pilots and three crew members on board, force-landed in eastern Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday after encountering a technical snag, defence sources said. All five of them are safe, having sustained just minor injuries, the sources said. The chopper was on a maintenance sortie when it had to force-land in Lohit sector of the state. (PTI)

Crude oil futures dip on weak spot demand

Crude oil prices on Thursday fell by Rs 101 to Rs 5,691 per barrel after participants cut their positions.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange, crude oil for December delivery dropped by Rs 101, or 1.74 per cent, to Rs 5,691 per barrel with a business volume of 6,228 lots. (PTI)
