A video shared on social media showing an army officer “threatening” an Arunachal Police officer at Bomdila police station following detention of two jawans on November 1 night, has given a new twist to the incident.
The video shows the army officer issuing “a direct threat” to the police officer, who had detained the two jawans after they had allegedly misbehaved with two local women in a nearby festival.
The army, however, said the officer issued the warning after policemen had physically assaulted the two jawans without following the due process. The Army said police should have handed over the jawans to military police and lodged the complaint for action.
“The two jawans were beaten up inside the police station in front of the commanding officer, who had rushed there following the incident. They did not relent despite intervention of the officer and then he got angry and threatened the police man,” said an army official.
Police lodged five FIRs against army personnel, who had allegedly stormed into Bomdila police station and attacked policemen. The FIRs alleged that the army group had assaulted a senior police and district administration officer who tried to control the situation.
Chinese soldier joins Diwali celebrations
Chinese soldiers joined their Indian counterparts on Wednesday and celebrated Diwali at the India-China border at Bum La in Arunachal Pradesh. The celebration was part of a border personnel meeting held between Indian and Chinese sides.
The India side was led by Col Prasenjit Kar and Col Yang Ji Ming headed the team of the People’s Liberation Army of China. “The meeting began with hoisting of the National flag and lightening of traditional diyas. Both sides stressed the importance of maintaining peace and tranquility on the borders,” said a statement issued by Lt. Col. Harsh Wardhan Pande, defence spokesperson based in Tezpur, Assam.
Paresh death “news fake”
Ulfa (Independent), a militant group on Wednesday said the reports claiming death of its top leader Paresh Baruah “fake news.” A statement issued by Romel Asom, member of its publicity wing said, “This is a hoax spread by people with vested interest.”
Reports in a section of new portals on Wednesday morning cited claim by “intelligence source” that Baruah had succumbed to his injuries which he sustained in a road accident recently near his hideouts at Ruli along Myanmar-China borders. “Our leader is safe and sound and has not met any accident,” said the statement.
