IRS officer Pradeep Singh, IES officer Jatin Kishore and IRS officer Pratibha Verma bagged the top three positions in the Civil Services Examination 2019 with the Union Public Service Commission on Tuesday saying that 829 aspirants have qualified for the elite services.

Of the 829 selected, 304 are from the general category while 78 are from economically weaker sections, 251 from the Other Backward Class (OBC), 129 from Scheduled Castes and 67 from Scheduled Tribes.

The UPSC has also maintained a consolidated reserve list of 182 candidates while results of 11 have been withheld.

Various services like IAS, IPS and IFS have reported a total of 927 vacancies, with the Group A Services topping the list with 438 vacancies. There are 180 vacancies in IAS, 150 in IPS and 24 in IFS.

Singh, the first rank holder, is a resident of Sonepat in Haryana while Kishore hails from Delhi and Verma from Uttar Pradesh's Sultanpur.

Singh had entered the civil services last year and was chosen for the Indian Revenue Service. He was undergoing probation at the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics (NACIN) in Faridabad.

"It is like a dream come true. It is a pleasant surprise for me. I always wanted to be an IAS officer. I would like to work for the deprived sections of society.I have opted for my home state Haryana as the preferred cadre state for the IAS. I am happy that I will now get the chance to work for my state,” Singh was quoted by PTI as saying.

Kishore (26), a 2018-batch officer of Indian Economic Service (IES) and currently posted as Assistant Director in the Ministry of Rural Development in New Delhi, bagged the second rank in his second attempt. He said education and environment would be his focused areas.

Verma, also an IRS officer who got 489th rank in 2018 exams, said, “I was inspired by the way IAS officers act as the first responder at the time of any crisis. They are always on the frontline at the time of difficult situations. That is why I decided to prepare again for the exam."

UPSC has a “Facilitation Counter” near Examination Hall in its campus. Candidates can obtain any information or clarification regarding their examinations and recruitments on the working days between 10 AM and 5 PM in person or over telephone on 011-23385271/23381125/23098543. The interviews were suspended in March and the remaining were done between July 20 and 31.
