Mid-air meal in Bengaluru

Last Updated 19 October 2018, 10:46 IST

Picture this, dining 160 feet above the ground on a deck with a huge dining table in the centre and 22 chairs around it. This unique aerial experience is now a reality in Bengaluru. A dining deck lifted by a crane with a breath-taking view of the Nagawara Lake, Manyata Techpark and Bangalore’s Green Cover.

There are all safety measures in place with three belts attached to the chairs. It even rotates mid-air so that everyone can savour a 360-degree view. A couple of staff members, including a chef, bartender and a photographer who are secured with safety harnesses, accompany the diners.

The fixed menu of the place includes chicken or sautéed vegetable with herb rice, croquettes, bruschetta, a fruit bowl and mocktail. The mocktail session is for 30 minutes and priced at Rs. 3,999 per head. The dinner costs Rs.6,999 per head and goes on for an hour. The preparation of the food takes place beforehand and is only served mid-air.

The concept was first hosted in Chandigarh back in 2008 by CCPL Hospitality and is currently available in more than 40 nations. TUV Rhineland of Germany has tested the entire planning from flying structures along with guidelines for calculations with all drawings, calculations and simulations.

According to the authorities, starting from the seat belts to the type of crane used, each and everything has been scrutinized and secured to ensure maximum safety benefits for the clients and employees. The diners are shown a safety video after the entry explaining about their ride. Although there is no age bar, the diners should be at least 135cm or 4ft 5 inches tall. In case of emergencies, the set up can be brought down within minutes. It is suggestible to visit the washroom before embarking on this journey.
