The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached properties worth Rs 5.2 crore belonging to nine contractors of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). The ED had taken up investigation under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) based on the charge sheets filed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The CID had conducted an investigation into the multi-crore bogus bill scam in three sub-divisions — Malleswaram, Gandhinagar and Rajarajeshwarinagar. The CID has filed nearly 45 charge sheets in various cases. The CID case was that BBMP engineers and contractors caused a loss to the state exchequer by indulging in irregularities.

The ED had taken up cases under PMLA in 23 cases charge-sheeted by CID.

“Instances of money laundering were made out against contractors Nagaraj, Shashikumar, G Kumara Swamy, Nagesh, Subramani, Shivaswamy, Anil, Babu Rao and Bharat. Properties attached include land, buildings worth Rs 3.36 crore in Mysuru and Bengaluru and bank deposits worth Rs 1.83 crore,’’ the release said.
