Minister for Women and Child Development Jayamala held a review meeting in Belagavi on Tuesday despite the state government declaring a three-day mourning in the backdrop of the demise of Union minister H N Anant Kumar.

While speaking to reporters, Jayamala expressed confidence that the Supreme Court would uphold gender equality as enshrined in the Constitution while referring to denial of entry to women of age between 10 and 50 to the Sabarimala temple.

"Equality is our constitutional right and I hope women will get justice from the court as per the aspirations of this Constitution under which the democracy is going strong. God does not discriminate against men or women and I am confident that justice would be delivered to women by the apex court," she said.

On Tipu Jayanti

Sharing her views on the controversy over Tipu Jayanti, Jayamala said if not in Karnataka where else on can celebrate Tipu Jayanti. "Tipu ruled here and he is the pride of the state. He has also sacrificed his children for the country and is part of our glorious history. Some political parties are making a controversy out of him for political gains," she said.
