Abandoned vehicles are an eyesore in Madikeri

Last Updated 16 December 2018, 19:16 IST

A tour around Madikeri reveals that the hill station town is not all that beautiful.

The reason: old, defunct vehicles belonging to various government departments have been abandoned at many places in the town, turning them into an eyesore.

Due to the negligence of the government officials and the City Municipal Council, old and defunct vehicles are not only gathering dust but are also in a dilapidated condition. In fact, the vehicles have been reduced to their exoskeleton.

The vehicles have not been cleared for years.

The fort premises and town police station have become dump yards for the defunct vehicles.

Such is their plight that some vehicles are covered in weeds now.

A majority of these old vehicles were once used by government officials from Panchayat Raj Engineering, PWD, Education and other departments.

The defunct vehicles are yet to be disposed of. The officials are neither repairing them nor auctioning these vehicles. The vehicles, seized by the police, are also gathering dust in front of the police stations in the town.

Local residents alleged that miscreants, who are engaged in selling ganja and other illegal activities, use these vehicles for their activities.

Poornima, a resident of Indira Nagar, said, “The defunct vehicles mar the beauty of the town. The CMC should initiate measures to dispose of these vehicles.”
