<p>Music lovers couldn’t have asked for a better evening as they watched six bands fight it out for the top slot at the ‘Vodafone Battle of the Bands’, held at UB City recently. <br /><br /></p>.<p>The contestants, all of whom were corporates, gave the judges a hard time in picking the best. <br /><br />The preliminary rounds were held at six technology parks. <br />The performers were allowed to register at the tech park of their choice. <br />The bands, which qualified to the finals, gave a power-packed performance garnering cheers and support from the audience who had gathered in large numbers. <br />The finalists included ‘District 5’, who qualified from RMZ NXT, ‘Darklight’ from RMZ Ecospace, ‘Rolling Square’ from RMZ Infinity, ‘Thrityton Capacity’ from Manyata, ‘Perfect Strangers’ from Embassy Golf-Links and ‘Band-itz’ from International Technology Park Bangalore (ITPB). <br /><br />Avoy Thatal from ‘District 5’ said, “We play a mix of genres, which include metal, rap, funk and progressive metal. We get together during the weekends to practise since we also find it to be a stress-buster. Since we have hectic schedules, rehearsing comes as a welcome break.” <br /><br />Avoy’s band, which played two covers and one original song, said, “We’re here just to have fun and we’re not looking at it as a competition,” he <br />said. <br /><br />Robin Srivastava from ‘Thrityon Capacity’, a band which was started during <br />his college years, played original compositions including ‘Honour Killing’, <br />‘Epileptic’, ‘Cotton Mouth’ among others said, “We’re here for the exposure and nothing else. After this, we are looking forward to the making of our full-length <br />album.” <br /><br />Apoorva Mehrotra, business head–Karnataka, Vodafone India said, “The contest enters its second season and we are thrilled about it. The unprecedented response we received last season motivated us to bring back the platform for the corporates yet again. This provides the much-required thrust for corporates to hone their musical skills, which otherwise remains in the back burner in today’s fast-paced corporate <br />life.” <br /><br />Walking away with the top slot was ‘Thrityton Capacity’ while ‘Darklight’ emerged as the runner-up. <br /><br />The audience, who gathered for the performance, was an impressed lot.<br /> <br />“It’s good to see that smaller bands are being given encouragement. I’m sure this will inspire many other music enthusiasts,” said Ravi, a member of the audience, who was at the performance along with his friends.<br /><br /> He added, “Actually, we were passing by and decided to have a look. I thought the first couple of performances were good.” <br /></p>
