<p>A Delhi Police head constable and a Delhi Home Guard were thrashed at a picket in east Delhi’s Pandav Nagar late on Thursday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The attack took place after they tried to stop two men on a motorcycle.Police said the motorcyclists had initially fled, but returned with a group of men in a car and thrashed them with rods and sticks. One of the accused has been arrested.Head constable Dhalchand, 49, and home guard Ramesh, 35, were on night duty.<br /><br />Dhalchand is posted with Pandav Nagar police station. They had signaled a motorcycle to stop after noticing two men riding the vehicle around 11.30 pm.<br /><br />“We had stopped the men on the motorcycle over suspicious activity. However, they argued over the checking. They left and returned in 15 minutes to attack Dhalchand and Ramesh,” said a police officer.<br /><br />The group also tried to snatch Dhalchand’s service pistol, but the head constable resisted the attempt.<br /><br />Despite being injured, Dhalchand and Ramesh chased them and managed to overpower one of the accused. He was later identified as Mohamad Ali, a resident of north-west Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar.<br /><br />During interrogation, Ali revealed the identity of his accomplices.“They have criminal history and we suspect that they were returning home after committing a robbery or snatching. Ali has not confessed to have been involved in any other crime in the area in the recent past,” the officer added.<br /><br />The group was also allegedly carrying a pistol and dropped its magazine at the spot. “The magazine appears to be of a country-made pistol,” the officer said.The injured head constable and home guard underwent treatment at Lal Bahadur Shashtri Hospital.<br /><br />A case of attempt to murder and assault to deter public servant from discharge of duty under Indian Penal Code has been registered with Pandav Nagar police station.<br /></p>
