<p>The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) proposes to accord taluk status to Kushalnagar, Ponnampet and also implement several measures to protect river Cauvery.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The party’s district leaders released the manifesto here on Saturday.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Speaking on the occasion, BJP district unit convener B D Manjunath said, “The district manifesto has been prepared after holding discussion three times. If the BJP comes to power in the state, all the promises in the manifesto will be fulfilled.”</p>.<p class="bodytext">BJP district president B B Bharathish said, “As chief minister, Yeddyurappa had sanctioned several projects to the district. The party’s manifesto has given priority to all sections of the people. It was prepared after consulting the people.”</p>.<p class="bodytext">BJP district election in charge Dharma Narayana Joshi said, “The Congress is wooing voters in the name of Tipu Jayanti. The voters in Karnataka will teach a lesson to the Congress.”</p>.<p class="bodytext">The party proposes to release special grants of Rs 200 crore for the annual repair of roads and the government buildings in the district.</p>.<p class="bodytext">It has also promised to set up a multi-sport academy at a cost of Rs 10 crore.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The increase in compensation for loss of crops in elephant and wild animal menace, Rs 2 crore for Dasara, Kaveri Sankramana, and other cultural programmes, measures to check elephant-man conflict, uninterrupted power supply, crop loan waiver on a priority basis are also included in the manifesto.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The party proposes to keep pepper, orange, and areca nut out of the purview of the APMC Act.</p>.<p class="bodytext">To help the farmers, the party has promised to set up cold storage units in all the three taluks along with the setting up of a separate milk dairy in Kodagu.</p>.<p class="bodytext">It wants to set up a pure drinking water unit in each Gram Panchayat along with a solid waste management unit.</p>.<p class="bodytext">To check illegal activities, including anti-social and terrorist activities, the party proposes to take stringent action.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Measures will be taken to provide free medical treatment for the unorganized labourers working in coffee estates of Kodagu, Hassan, and Chikkamagaluru districts, the party in the manifesto.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The party has also focused on rejuvenation of lakes and Devara Kadu (sacred forests) in the district. It proposes to complete the Mysuru-Kushalnagara railway line work.</p>
