Cabbie dies as BMTC bus collides with his taxi

A 36-year old cab driver died and around 15 people, including passengers of a BMTC bus, sustained minor injuries when the bus collided head-on with his cab before crashing into a roadside tree near Huralichikkanahalli in northern Bengaluru’s Jalahalli on Saturday.

The bus was plying on the Majestic-Hesaraghatta route when the collision took place around 11.30 am. The cab driver, identified as Jagadish, was on his way to Yeshwantpur when he lost control of the vehicle that eventually resulted in the crash. Jagadish, a resident of Somashettihalli, perished in the accident.

The bus driver, identified as Nagesh (45), swerved to the roadside but ended up crashing the vehicle into a tree. The bus stopped at the tree, saving the lives of about 20 people at a roadside eatery close-by. There were around 25 passengers on the bus and most of them escaped with minor injuries. They were discharged after first-aid treatment at a private hospital. The bus driver was also injured and is being treated at a private hospital.

The Jalahalli traffic police said they had booked the BMTC driver for causing death by negligence.

Biker mowed down In a separate accident, a 30-year-old man motorcyclist died after being knocked down by a speeding car in southeastern Bengaluru’s HSR Layout on Friday evening.

K Manjunath, of Tumakuru, was riding home when the accident occurred around 4.50 pm near the Tubarahalli junction. The HSR Layout traffic police said they had registered a case and arrested the car driver, identified as Vijay Kumar, a private company employee and a resident of Seegehalli.
