Over 6,000 dengue cases were reported in the year 2010 and this year till now below 1,500 cases have been registered at different hospitals, MCD health committee Chairman V K Monga said.

With the onset of winter dengue cases have started showing a declining trend, but this was not the case last year, he said.

“We have undertaken a lot of precautionary steps this year to contain the disease. Along with the services of domestic breeding controllers we had roped in help from school children to check for mosquito breeding in different localities. This year the cases reported is just one-sixth of what was reported last year,” Monga said.

“Last year we had the record breaking dengue cases ever. Dengue cases had not shown a rapidly declining trend last year, too,” he added.
