The Aam Aadmi Party has welcomed the Election Commission’s direction to the Gujarat government for registration of an FIR against Narendra Modi for violating the model code of conduct in the LS elections. The party termed it “an indication of the habitual offences being committed by Modi and the BJP.”
The party in a statement on Wednesday said that it has drawn the EC’s attention towards pending complaints against Modi for his attempts to bribe the voters of Varanasi by distributing free sarees and other freebies to voters when he filed his nomination on April 24. The party claimed that it has provided the EC with photographic and documentary evidence of the same.
The party said that the EC should order the immediate registration of an FIR against Modi under sections 171 B of the Indian Penal Code, which defines bribery during elections.
