A youth has alleged that he was duped by a person on the pretext of a job offer in the Indian Railways and the petroleum ministry by using counterfeit letterhead and forged signature of Union law minister Salman Khurshid.

Jagdish Prasad, a graduate and resident of Shastri Nagar, had even tried to commit suicide after realising that he had been cheated.

He claimed that he was looking for a job and had come in contact with Karan Singh a month ago.

According to his complaint, Karol Bagh resident Singh assured him of providing a job and took Rs 15 lakh.

“Prasad was assured that Singh had good approach in ministries. Singh told Prasad he could provide him the job of assistant station master with the Indian Railways through his contacts,” a police official said.

“Looking for a good government job, Prasad easily came under Singh’s influence and took his offer,” the official added.

A week later, Singh showed Prasad a letterhead with Khurshid’s signature, after which the victim paid Rs 15 lakh in two instalments.

However, a few days after the payment was made, Singh’s mobile phone became unreachable.

“When Prasad tried to approach Singh at his house in Karol Bagh’s Bedenpura, he found the house locked. He then realised that he had been duped and approached police,” the official added.

Initially, a case was registered with Karol Bagh police station over Prasad’s statement under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act. It was later transferred to the crime branch.

It has come to light that Singh’s accommodation in Bedenpura was rented.
“We have started investigation and assured Prasad that the accused will be arrested soon,” the official said.

In August, senior Congress leader and Member of Parliament Karan Singh had approached police when he found that his signature had been forged to gain undue favours from a US-based organisation.

Two youth were also arrested in south Delhi’s Sangam Vihar for forging his signature and letterhead to get waiting-list tickets of the Indian Railways in June.
