Leopard rescued from snare in Hassan

The Forest department officials have rescued an approximately three-year-old male leopard that was caught in a snare in the taluk on Tuesday.

According to residents of Dasanapur village near here, the animal was caught in the trap laid at Ranganathaswamy Betta on Monday night.

The villagers, who noticed the animal, alerted the Forest department officials.

The officials, who visited the spot, managed to tranquilise the leopard and released it from the trap.

The officials shifted the animal to the veterinary college hospital in Hassan for treatment.

They said, the animal will be released into the forest after treatment.

Range forest officer Vinay Chandra and veterinarian Dr Murali were part of the rescue operation.

Leopard attacks are rampant in Dasanapur, Kendinne, Masarangala, Parasanahalli and other villages in the taluk.
