'AAP just promises, gives no timeline'

Kejri govt non-committal on price rise, Wi-Fi: BJP

The BJP in the Delhi Assembly on Tuesday alleged that the Arvind Kejriwal-led government has remained non-committal on issues such as price rise, commercialisation of education, uplifting Dalits, and turning Delhi into a Wi-Fi zone.

While discussing the Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung’s address to the newly elected Assembly, the leader of the BJP Legislature Party Vijender Gupta also pulled up the ruling Aam Aadmi Party for not laying down a time-bound programme for executing its poll promises.

“The government didn’t say a word on the issue of price rise in its address,” he said, adding that the AAP had promised controlling price rise if voted to power in the recently concluded Delhi Assembly polls.

“Last time, AAP said it will take a month to ensure passage of the Lokpal Bill. But no time-frame has been fixed this time,” he said, talking to reporters after the Assembly session.

Slamming the  AAP for rushing through the business during the two days of the Assembly, Gupta said the government went against the convention to deny the Opposition a day’s time to study the LG’s address. He claimed that a healthy discussion in House is not possible otherwise.

“I know that Kejriwal ji has to go to Jantar Mantar for joining Anna Hazare in his protest. So the convention has been thrown to winds to accommodate his busy schedule,” he said.

The MLA from Rohini trained his guns on the AAP government and accused it of issued ‘bogus’ orders. He said the government’s order prohibiting slum demolition holds no significance as the Central government has already passed the National Capital Territory of Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Amendment Bill 2014, seeking regularisation of unauthorised colonies in the city.

Gupta also cornered Kejriwal-led government for ridding small and medium enterprises of mandatory environmental clearances. He said the government didn’t consult the Delhi Pollution Control Committee before issue a circular in this regard.

When the AAP MLAs created a ruckus in the House as he attacked the AAP government over ‘false promises’, repeated in LG’s speech, he said, “The government only talk about rights, and have remained silent on its responsibilities.”

The  AAP on Tuesday had reiterated its demand for full statehood to Delhi.
The BJP MLAs also accused the Speaker of “favouring” the majority in the 70-member House, which has three MLAs from the BJP and 67 from the AAP. Gupta said he will write to the LG against Speaker’s partisan behaviour.
