AAP prepares itself for victory celebrations

Party sets up podium, expects crowd of volunteers
Last Updated 10 February 2015, 01:52 IST

Hoping for exit polls to hold up, the Aam Aadmi Party leaders will track Delhi election results at East Patel Nagar office from early Tuesday morning.

The AAP logistics team has prepared a detailed plan to host a barrage of supporters, party workers and media crews at their office. Arvind Kejriwal, who ran for chief minister, will address the supporters from the second floor balcony of three-storied building that houses the party office.

The top party functionaries like Manish Sisodia, Kumar Vishwas and Ashutosh will also be present.

The exit polls have predicted a majority for AAP and the mood at party office is charged-up.

“We are confident that with the kind of support we have, we will come to power,” senior party leader Ashutosh said.

The party has installed some 70 loudspeakers, four 8x12 ft LED screens, eight sound systems, and over half a dozen TV screens at the venue.

Two parks in the neighbourhood have been designated for gathering of party supporters.

A long-stretched lane has been earmarked for cars and OB (outdoor broadcasting) vans parking. The footpath facing the AAP office has given way to an podium measuring 100x8 ft for TV journalists sending out live feed to their television channels.

The party has not ordered for brass brand and dhol wallahs. But singer-composer Vishal Dadlani is expected to set the tone for likely celebrations from 13x8 ft stage set up in front of the office building, said party worker Ram Kumar Jha.

He said that the party on Monday morning sent letters to local residents regretting the inconvenience due to expected influx of volunteers at the central Delhi office.

“As you know that on February 10 counting for Delhi polls will be held. Therefore, the supporters will turn up at the AAP office in large numbers. Their presence might cause some momentary inconvenience to you. We regret it,” the party in its letter to the residents said.

After operating from its two-storied Hanuman Road office, the party had shifted its base to the thickly populated residential area near Patel Nagar market in August 2014.

The winning party candidates have been asked to keep the celebrations confined to their own constituencies, despite the party’s claims that it enjoys support of the local residents.

“We have tried to keep the celebrations low key considering that it is a residential area. But is there a reason to disbelief that we are not winning?” a senior party functionary said.

The senior leader said Kejriwal will make an address only when the final verdict is out.
