Scores of party workers of the three main contenders — BJP, AAP and Congress — in the Delhi Assembly elections gathered outside the counting centre at Gole Market area in the ‘high-profile’ New Delhi constituency early on Sunday morning.

As the day proceeded and after a couple of hours of counting, the AAP supporters began celebrating as it was leading in the constituency.

Supporters of other parties were seen leaving the counting centre after noon.
“Earlier workers of all the three parties were waiting outside the counting centre, but after 12 pm they started disappearing,” said a jubilant AAP supporter.

Many AAP supporters waved brooms in the air to express their happiness. They were shouting slogans, “Is baar jhadu chalega.”

“AAP will win this time. The Congress’ rule will end and the AAP will emerge as a winner,” said another supporter.

The security at the New Delhi area was beefed for the counting of votes. The roads leading to the counting centre were barricaded. Police were seen controlling the supporters and asking them not to create ruckus. After the news of Sheila Dikshit reached the polling centre, the Aam Aadmi Party supporters started shouting, “Dilli jeet li.

“People of Delhi have shown that they want a corruption-free government and AAP is the only alternative,” said a party member.

At the same time the supporters got the information that AAP’s convenor Arvind Kejriwal was leading with over 10,000 votes. “If we have won the New Delhi constituency, we have no doubt that AAP will emerge as a winner,” added the member, at around 1 pm.
The counting centre was located at NP Bengali Girls Senior Secondary School in Gole Market which had seven counting halls, one for each of the seven constituencies of the New Delhi district.

Sheila Dikshit was eyeing the chief ministerial slot for the fourth time from this constituency. She had won the New Delhi seat, known as Gole Market prior to delimitation in 2008, three times on the trot.
