JOIN USThe semi-decomposed body of a 34-year-old NDMC employee who went missing on Thursday was discovered on the banks of Yamuna in south Delhi’s Sunlight Colony on Saturday. His face was crushed beyond recognition, police said.
The victim has been identified as Sunder, a resident of Chilla Village near Mayur Vihar in east Delhi.
Sunder was a lower-rank staff with the NDMC and lived with his family. His family members had filed his missing complaint after he left home on Thursday and did not return.
The east Delhi police have registered a murder case and are probing into the case from personal enmity and other possible motives. The initial probe has pointed the needle of suspicion on Sunder’s three neighbours who were last seen with him.
“We have detained the three men and are questioning them to establish their involvement in Sunder’s murder,” said a police officer.
A police officer of south-east district police said they had received a call regarding discovery of a male body at Yamuna Khadar in Sunlight Colony by local residents.
A team of local police reached the spot and preserved the body at AIIMS.
Meanwhile, the photographs of the victim and details pertaining to his physical appearance and clothes were uploaded on Zipnet (zonal integrated police network).
The investigating officer scanned the list of missing men with similar features on Zipnet and found that a man of the same age and physical description was missing from east Delhi.
“The east Delhi police were contacted and the family members of the missing man were called to AIIMS, where they identified the victim as Sunder. The body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital,” the officer added.
Police said they suspect Sunder had a fight with his three neighbours while consuming alcohol after which he was battered to death.
“After killing Sunder, the murderers took the body near the banks of Yamuna and smashed his face with stones so that he could not be identified easily,” the officer said.
