At least three municipal councillors who had vacated their seats after getting elected to Delhi Assembly still figure on the municipal corporation website. One of them is a minister.

The MCD has failed to update their status even though it is now time for by-polls to fill the seats they vacated in 13 wards.

Delhi Environment Minister Imran Hussain figures as a councillor from ward No.86, Ballimaran on the North Delhi Municipal Corporation’s official online portal.

And, going by the website, Aam Aadmi Party MLA Raghuvinder Shokeen is still a councillor from ward No. 44, Quammruddin Nagar of the North Corporation.

“I have even surrendered my official mobile number while vacating the post after I was elected as an MLA to the Delhi Assembly,” Shokeen told Deccan Herald.

Another AAP MLA Kartar Singh Tanwar continues to remain a councillor from ward No.176, Bhati, on the South Delhi Municipal Corporation’s official website.

When the MLA was asked if he faces any inconvenience due to this, Tanwar said, “No, I don’t. In fact, I have not received any call from anybody who has confused me with a councillor from Bhati.”

The by-polls to the 13 municipal wards will be held on May 15, and the counting of votes will take place on May 17. Since April 18, the model code of conduct has been applicable in these 13 wards and will be in place till the completion of election process on May 28.
