'Rebel Star' campaigns for Nandan Nilekani

Last Updated 13 April 2014, 17:56 IST

The election campaign on Sunday was star-studded, with several candidates roping in film actors to woo voters. While ‘Rebel Star’ H M Ambarish campaigned for Nandan Nilekani (Congress), ‘Golden Star’ Ganesh campaigned for H N Ananth Kumar (BJP) in the Bangalore South Lok Sabha constituency.

People, especially women, gathered in large number unmindful of the sizzling sun, to get a glimpse of film stars during the campaign.

Ambarish, who is also Housing minister and a Vokkaliga leader of the Congress, campaigned at Srinagar, where Vokkaligas are in large number.

The minister, who has just returned from Singapore after recovering from a severe respiratory infection, appeared enthusiastic. “Vote. But, you do not have to do so just because I am here or for the reason that I am an actor. Weigh all that we have achieved and then vote,” he said.

Ambarish also said he would not seek votes even from villagers without working for their good. He listed the Congress-led UPA government’s achievements, claiming that credit should be given to the Congress for passing the Lokpal Bill.

He also jovially remarked that the party made all attempts to help the poor and the only other alternative left to win their confidence was to rent out a five-star hotel for them to ensure the facilities.

Former minister B K Chandrashekar also accompanied them. The rally began at Vidyapeetha Circle in the morning and reached Srinagara bus stop in the afternoon, where the members of the party addressed the gathering. Ambarish also campaigned at Bommanahalli and Vijayanagar.

Actor Ganesh and wife Shilpa campaigned for Ananth Kumar at Yediyuru ward in Jayanagar, while Rakshita canvassed for Sadananda Gowda in KR Puram.
