Women protesters heckle Kejriwal

Last Updated 20 April 2014, 19:33 IST

Aam Admi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal,  who held a roadshow and addressed several corner meetings in Amethi constituency on Sunday, was shown black flags and heckled by women protesters.

Amethi is Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's Lok Sabha constituency. Kejriwal was facing protests in Amethi after he underwent the same treatment recently in Varanasi, the constitutency from which Gujarat Chief Minister and prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is contesting to the Lok Sabha.

Kejriwal’s roadshow and meetings were in support of AAP nominee Kumar Vishwas who is challenging  Rahul Gandhi in Amethi.

According to Congress party sources here, scores of women carrying placards on which was written `Delhi ka bhagoda' (the one who ran away from Delhi) confronted Kejriwal near the Durgapur area in Amethi and shouted slogans against him. He was also reportedly heckled by the women protesters.

An undeterred Kejriwal, however, continued with his roadshow and his diatribe against Rahul and Modi. “Defeating Rahul and Modi will be in the national interest”, was his central theme in his speeches at his meetings.

He said that the BJP had always fielded ‘weak’ candidates against Rahul in Amethi. “This time we have given Amethi a strong candidate”', he added. The AAP leader also paid obeisance at the famous temple at Tikarmafi.
