Bandh evokes poor response in Kodagu

The nationwide bandh observed by labour organisations evoked a poor response in Kodagu district on Tuesday.

Private buses and autorickshaws operated as usual and shops remained open to the customers.

KSRTC buses operated its services after 10 am. Students attended schools and colleges and no holiday was declared.

Members of labour unions conducted protests in Virajpet and Somwarpet.

Kodagu District Action Committee staged a dharna in front of the Gandhi statue at Gandhi Maidan, urging for the fulfilment of various demands, including controlling the price rise.

Protestors shouted slogans against the Central government on the occasion.

Addressing protestors, committee leader T P Ramesh demanded minimum wages for angwanwadi workers, Asha workers and mid-day meal workers.

He also demanded that the contract and outsourcing system should be scrapped and the service of workers who are on a contract system should be regularised.

He accused the Central government of failing to generate employment and control the price rise.

CITU general secretary N D Kuttappa, district Swacchata Karmika Sangha president H K Janaki, Postal Department Workers Association secretary Baby, Asha workers district unit president Tekkade Poornima and Anganwadi Workers and Assistants Association taluk president V H Nagarathna were present.
