Chinese suppliers sell luxury brand items like Birkin, Louis Vuitton for shockingly low prices amid trade war

The supplier revealed that the production cost of the Birkin bag, which usually has a price tag of Rs 32,53,351 ($38,000), is Rs 1,19,862 ($1,400).

In an attempt to retaliate against US President Donald Trump's tariffs, China is encouraging the sale of luxury items through Chinese manufacturers at notably cheaper prices.

Several videos were shared on X where Chinese suppliers displayed high-quality products of luxury brands - Gucci, Birkin, Louis Vuitton, etc.

These suppliers provide direct sales to consumers at much cheaper price than the original price of the luxury brand.

The suppliers revealed that the production cost of the Birkin bag, which usually has a price tag of Rs 32,53,351 ($38,000), is Rs 1,19,862 ($1,400).

One such video on X was shared along with a caption saying, "Factories in China are now encouraging people to buy direct and avoid the retail price of luxury goods such as a Birkin bag."

"The Birkin bag costs $1400 for all materials and labour, but retails for $38,000. Even with an additional 145% tariff, you will still pay a lot less for identical Western luxury brand items made by factories in China, without the exorbitantly priced logo," the caption further read.

Another video shared on X said, "China is now legalising counterfeit US products in retaliation for tariffs - revealing how big-name brands are made and urging people to buy cheap domestic copies instead."

Another video showing Stanley tumblers was posted on X along with caption read, "Your "expensive" Stanley cups and bags are made in China and sold very cheap. Xi Jinping is fighting everyone here! Wow. Don't start a war with China."

A user replied to the video saying, "Keep pumping these videos. It shows how desperate China is. Literally all these factories are shutting down in 1 week if this is how hard they’re crying."

Another wrote, "What I like about this is exposing the middleman arbitrage is good for both American consumers and Chinese manufacturers. If we end up somewhere that the cheap shit is actually cheap, but the factory wage slaves actually earn enough to have a future, Trump would have made like one third of the world a better place."

A third user replied, "They are just reinforcing why we shouldn't be buying this crap anyway! Maybe US society will have a reset on our consumerism!"

Another video on X said, "China is so pissed-off with the US! The situation is getting out of hand. They're exposing brands in Europe and US, including cars."

"Who would have thought this day would come? The TikTok feed its Chinese people everywhere. 'We are here to tell you the truth, we make your expensive bags'," the caption of the video further read.

A social media user replied to the video, "Oddly they seem to be attacking European fashion brands rather than American brands."

A second user wrote, "This is why they wanted tik tok shut down!"

Another reply read, "Does China think we don’t already know that these companies make their products in China for pennies on the dollar? Or do Chinese people not know about Capitalism?"

The White House had recently clarified that China would face a minimum tariff rate of 145 per cent on all imports to the United States, and a day prior to that Trump had said that he increased tariffs on China to 125 per cent after Beijing retaliated against his previous levies.
