Union Minister of State for Power, Coal and New & Renewable Energy, Piyush Goyal, has said that NTPC will be setting up a 4,000 mW power plant at Puttaparthi in Anantapur district, and a 2,250 mW solar power plant in Andhra Pradesh.

He was speaking at the Confederation of Indian Industry’s (CII) Partnership Summit, organised with the Government of Andhra Pradesh and the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Government of India, in Visakhapatnam. This is the 22nd edition of CII’s flagship annual event, and this year’s theme is ‘Partnership for a Shared and Sustainable World Economy’.

Speaking on climate change, Goyal said that it is one issue on which the entire world has come together.

At the same venue, Petrogas, a JV company between Isomeric Holdings Bhd from Malaysia and LEPL Ventures (LEPL) from Vijayawada, has signed a facilitation MoU with Krishnapatnam Port Company (KPCL) and Andhra Pradesh Government for setting up a Regasification and Floating Storage Terminal at Krishnapatnam Port with an investment of over $500 million at the Partnership Summit.

As per the MoU, the Petrogas will construct 5 Million Tons Per Annum (MTPA) capacity Regasification and Storage Plant and related ancillary facilities like Floating LNG Storage tanks, Regasification unit etc. in Phase-I, which is expected to cost $500 million.

Goyal said, India’s own commitment for a cleaner environment is reflected in a very ambitious Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDC) agenda that India has put forward to the world and world leaders have acknowledged it. The fact that India has plans of scaling up its solar power 25 times, shows the country’s initiative to create a cleaner and greener world.

Goyal observed that the newly formed state has overcome a huge power crisis and become a power surplus state today. He guaranteed investors that this is the state where their money will not only be safe but will also grow manifold.
