In an attempt to beat back competition from major e-commerce players such as Amazon and Walmart backed Flipkart, Bengaluru based mobile retailer Sangeetha is entering into exclusive offline partnerships with brands such as One Plus and Realme.

At the sidelines of an event to announce their partnership with OnePlus, Subhash Chandra, MD-Sangeetha mobiles told DH, " Since the online market was very new in India, many of these online platforms were offering huge discounts. With the help of their apps, they were also able to publicise their discounts and price drop offers. However, things have begun to change now. With some prodding from the government and fast maturing brands, online platforms are no longer able to offer huge discounts."

He adds, "Customers are now offered the same discounts that are offered online by these brands. The new e-commerce policy that restricts deep discounting, exclusive listings came into force, earlier this year has ensured that we can compete with e-tailers. We are also offering plenty of offers ranging from cashbacks to damage protection and so on all our phones. With this partnership, customers will be able to purchase the One Plus 7 and the 7 pro models on the same day, it releases online on Amazon."

In the online space, exclusive partnerships are fairly commonplace and Sangeetha is in talks with multiple players to bring out such partnerships in the offline segment. "We are already selling all major phone brands in our stores. Vivo is coming up with a phone soon that will be exclusively retailed through Sangeetha stores."

Sangeetha has a presence across South India and operates 11 stores in Varanasi and 14 in Ahmedabad. The company clocked a turnover of Rs 1,700 crore last year. " We plan to hit the Rs 2,500 crore mark in revenue by the end of the year. These partnerships will help us in that regard. Presently, we are a family run firm in South India, with franchises managing the stores in Ahmedabad and Varanasi. We are planning to divest a small stake in an IPO in around two years."

Sangeetha, that started out a store selling musical stores, 45 years ago will also be stocking up on more consumer electronics. "We re-entered that space by retailing MI television sets. As more such products enter the market, we are looking to retail them as well."
