Homegrown e-commerce marketplace, Flipkart has said top 100 sellers accounted for about 25% of total sales on the platform during the last three months.

According to a Flipkart spokesperson, the sales events helped the company to attract customers to the platform, which in turn, gave over 1 lakh sellers an opportunity to grow their business.

"In the two-month long festive season in 2017, we saw 100% increase in customer footfall, and in our flagship event, The Big Billion Days, 4,100+ sellers joined the lakhpati club, selling over Rs 5,000 crore worth of products in just 5 days," said the spokesperson.

Flipkart Seller Hub gives sellers regular opportunity to interact with Flipkart representatives. "This helps them understand the growth levers that they can employ to grow their business and helps us understand their requirements/expectations from the e-commerce platform," the spokesperson said.

To further help sellers, the company introduced Smart Fulfilment, an initiative where state-of-the-art warehousing technology is implemented at the seller’s warehouse.

"This helps them employ the best of technology to process their orders quickly and get their shipments delivered faster. Products under Smart Fulfilment also become eligible for the F-Assured badge, which is a mark of the quality of products sold on Flipkart," said the spokesperson.

Flipkart's Selection Insights helps sellers identify in-demand products to list and sell. "They can also see what is the minimum price point that a particular product is sold on Flipkart, which helps them price their product competitively," said the spokesperson.

The huge success of numerous business models like Flipkart Fulfilment and Smart Fulfilment (faster delivery programs) has helped sellers improve their business performance.

Besides Flipkart Utkarsh to help identify gaps in the quality, Flipkart Seller Apex Programme helps the seller to implement lean principles at the seller's warehouse.

Flipkart Fulfilment programme helped the company to take care of sellers products at its warehouse for hassle-free picking, packing and shipping of orders.

"One of the many ways this program helps sellers is keeping their product closer to the demand area. By coming onboard to our Hyderabad/Bangalore warehouse, this seller will ensure that the product reaches faster to the customer, thereby increasing the chances of a sale. Sellers have witnessed 22% growth in terms of units and 35% increase in GMV," said the spokesperson.

The company also made it very clear there is no preferential treatment given to sellers on the platform. "A seller can avail certain set of benefits basis his/her performance. These benefits are part of Seller Tiering, where sellers are tiered as Gold, Silver and Bronze basis set performance metrics, observed every 90 days," states the company.
