CPI (M) State Executive Committee member D S Nirvanappa alleged that the district administration and the plantation owner have failed to provide justice to a college student in Siddapur who was sexually assaulted and murdered recently.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, he condemned the incident and urged for strict action to be initiated against the arrested.

He said that affluent people in the district themselves have deployed workers from Assam and West Bengal at their plantations as these labourers work for low wages.

There are some agents at work who bring these workers into the district. The plantation owners have exploited the labourers from outer
districts and have neglected the labourers from the district, he added.

The officials concerned should find out how many people from outside states are working at the plantations in the district, said Nirvanappa.

Speaking during a separate press conference in Madikeri on Tuesday, CPI secretary E Ra Durgaprasad said it is wrong to hate all the labourers from outer states. But the accused in the student’s assault and murder should be awarded capital punishment.

However, some organisations are creating unrest in the district using this incident, which is not right, he added.

He said the plantation owners should provide the information of labourers working at their plantations to the police stations.

Party district secretary S R Manjunath, members M M Siddaiah, S G Sannappa and Byadagotta Chinnappa were present.
