The Manipal Academy of Higher Education’s (MAHE) multi-level car parking facility, with a capacity to accommodate 774 four-wheelers and 400 two-wheelers, was thrown open to the public on Tuesday.

“The G+3 car parking structure is spread over an area of 2,50,000 sqft. The building will be powered by solar energy,” MAHE Director (Projects) Captain (IN) M C Belliappa said.

“The solar panels form the roof, and, as such the cars parked there will also be in shade. The solar panels can generate 540 KW of electricity which will be used for other facilities of the University as well,” he added.

“The facility was completed within two years at a total cost of Rs 25 crore. There are separate ramps for incoming and outgoing traffic. The building also has provision for charging electricity powered vehicles. Three lifts and five stair cases will facilitate the movements of vehicles and people.”

“It will be a pay and park facility open to general public visiting MAHE and Kasturba Hospital,” MAHE Director (General Services) Col Prakash Chandra said.

Parking for two-wheelers of MAHE staff is provided on the ground floor and the parking for four-wheelers was provided on other floors.
