BBMP to name Vasanthpura ward after Ambareesh

Last Updated 26 January 2019, 20:32 IST

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike is planning to name the Vasanthpura ward after ‘Rebel Star’ Ambareesh.

The ward — number 197 near Bommanahalli — is getting a name change in the memory of the film star-turned-politician, who passed away recently.

Ambareesh earned the sobriquet ‘Rebel Star’ for his aggressive roles on the silver screen.

The BBMP has issued a notification, inviting suggestions and objections to the name change. The public has 15 days to register their opinions regarding the name change.

The civic body is not clear as to why Vasanthpura has been chosen for the name change, but there are speculations that a ward closer to Bengaluru south or the JP Nagar area is chosen since this would be closest to where the film star had resided.

Shobha Gowda, the corporator for the ward, was unavailable for comment.
