BBMP sends mobile toilets to Kodagu

BBMP workers transporting mobile toilets to the flood-hit Kodagu district on Sunday.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike has despatched 100 mobile toilets to the flood-hit Kodagu on Sunday.

BBMP officials said the mobile toilets have been handed over to the Kodagu district administration and had been installed at the relief camps where flood victims, especially women, are struggling without a toilet facility.

Speaking to DH, Mayor R Sampath Raj said: “We have got a request from the Kodagu district administration to send mobile toilets, which are necessary at this moment. We have sent 100 mobile toilets in the truck, which have already been installed in the relief camps.”

Raj assured that more mobile toilet units will be sent in the coming days as per the requirements.

The civic body has also despatched 300 male sanitary workers to rebuild the Kodagu district. The various teams of sanitary workers is being headed by 10 senior BBMP officials. Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad has also sent health officials of the civic body to Kodagu with required medicines to treat the flood victims.

The Palike had requested city residents to send donations and relief material to its head office and all the eight zonal offices on Saturday. The relief materials received till Sunday will be sent to Kodagu on Monday morning.

“Food items, mineral water bottles, blankets, diapers, first aid kits, medicines, towels, sanitary napkins and other relief materials have been received from the citizens after we requested them. We will dispatch this material to Kodagu in a truck by Monday morning,” Raj said.

Relief material for pets 

Safe Travel, an organisation in Mysuru, has collected relief material exclusively for pet animals in Kodagu. The organisation has sent dry dog food, dry cat food, biscuits, antiseptics, vitamin supply and clothes for the pets.

Namitha, a volunteer, said pets will suffer a lot during a flood. “And, so we thought of collecting relief material for the distressed animals,” she added.
