The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will go after major property tax defaulters in its 10-day drive starting Tuesday. It has decided to name and shame these defaulters.

In a press release, the BBMP’s taxation and finance committee chairperson M K Gunashekar said directions have been given to all the joint commissioners at the zonal level to prepare the list of tax defaulters, issue them demand notices and make them cough up the tax with penalty.

He said he has directed the joint commissioners to issue demand notices to 154 high-rise buildings, which got occupancy certificate in 2015-16 and 2016-17.

Gunashekar said the survey of all major properties has begun. This will give the actual dimension of the property and help the BBMP work out the tax. Based on the survey report, owners and occupants of these buildings will be asked to pay the tax.
